Today I took a walk to get a view of the sound and took some photos of some hedges, a giant moss covered branch that appeared to blend in with the grass below, and a fence with a moss covered base. When I got to the place where I could see the Sound, I could see it in two directions. And there were many great views of the Sound.

Ice Storm
There was an ice storm warning this morning. It was like the ice storms we had in St. Louis. The snow was covered with a coating of ice. There was at least 3/4" of ice on the trees.

Snow Day in Tacoma
Lots of snow fell last night and this morning. I keep seeing kids being pulled down the street in plastic sleds. Not too many cars except the mail car.

Fabric Christmas Trees
I've been experimenting with making some decorative fabric Christmas trees. They started at simple cones and evolved into a cone with three bands that angle out.

Dash Point State Park and Browns Point
We stopped at Dash Point State Park to see the view of the Olympic Mountains across Puget Sound. They had some amazing trees there, too. We drove through Browns Point and found the best view of Mt. Rainier we've see so far.

Crochet Christmas Trees
We left our Christmas tree in St. Louis and so I thought I would experiment making some crocheted trees for our dining room table. I've been making a lot of crocheted hats so I just tried to make a long, skinny pointed hat. No pattern, just increasing a little at a time. I found some colorful globe push pins at Joann Fabric that look like little ornaments and chain stitched a red garland. The other ones ended up on the bookcases in the living room. The yarn is a combination of Joann Fabric Rainbow Boucle and Lion Brand Color Waves. It makes a thick crocheted tree that can stand up on it's own. I'm using a J/10 hook. The trees are 14", 17" and 11" respectively.

Port Townsend
This is the view from the Better Living Through Coffee cafe in Port Townsend. You can see the Cascade Mountains to the left and the Olympic Mountains to the right. We stopped in last night and there was an Irish music jam going on. This morning there's just coffee and a great view.

Happy New Year 2012 From Lilly the Cat
Lilly wishes you Happy New Year 2012. Here she is on the dock at the incredibly beautiful Lake Crescent in the Olympic National Park in Washington state. Lilly has enjoyed living in Tacoma after the long trip from St. Louis this past summer.
